South African Craftsmanship: Behind the Baobab Decor Story
At Baobab Decor, every mirror we make carries a piece of South Africa with it. From the timber we source to the hands that shape each frame, our story is one of local pride, skilled craftsmanship, and a deep love for beautiful, lasting design.
Why We Started
Baobab Decor was born from a simple belief: that South Africans deserve access to world-class home décor that's made right here at home. Too often, beautiful mirrors and furniture are imported at a premium, when the talent and materials to create them exist in our own backyard. We set out to change that.
The Materials We Choose
We're deliberate about the materials we use. Our Wooden Mirror Collection features locally sourced Kiaat and Oak — two timbers celebrated for their warmth, grain character, and durability.
- Kiaat is a rich, reddish-brown hardwood indigenous to southern Africa. It's prized for its natural beauty and resistance to wear, making it ideal for statement mirrors that are built to last generations.
- Oak brings a lighter, more contemporary feel — its fine grain and pale tones complement modern and Scandinavian-inspired interiors beautifully.
Beyond wood, we craft mirrors in a range of styles — from sleek Frameless Floating Mirrors to illuminated LED Mirrors — always with quality and longevity in mind.
Handcrafted, Not Mass-Produced
Each Baobab Decor mirror is crafted by skilled South African artisans who take genuine pride in their work. We don't do mass production. Every piece is made with attention to detail — from the precision of the cut to the smoothness of the finish. When you hang a Baobab mirror in your home, you're not just buying a product; you're investing in someone's craft.
Designed for South African Homes
We design with local homes in mind. Our shapes — from the flowing curves of our Arch Mirrors and Organic Mirrors to the clean lines of our Rectangular Collection — are chosen to complement the diverse range of interior styles found across South Africa, from Cape Dutch farmhouses to contemporary Joburg apartments.
Our Commitment Going Forward
We're committed to growing local. That means continuing to source materials responsibly, supporting South African craftspeople, and expanding our range in ways that reflect the creativity and diversity of this country. Every mirror we sell helps us do more of that.
Thank you for supporting local. When you choose Baobab Decor, you're choosing South Africa.
